The “Discover and Explore Entrepreneurship” Program, supported by the City of Greater Geraldton, has seen the youth of Geraldton and Mullewa create 17 youth-led social enterprise ideas to address local challenges.
This program helped youth build an entrepreneurial mindset, skillset and toolset, explore entrepreneurial career pathways and drive positive change in their communities.
Social Enterprise Discovery Workshops
The workshop series featured two immersive Social Enterprise Discovery Workshops and a Lighting the Spark program which was codesigned specifically for Indigenous and First Nations youth. The latter was led by Young Change Agents Indigenous Engagement Lead & Programs Manager, Tiffani Seaton.
The workshop series supported over 69 students and 8 educators across three schools including: Champion Bay Senior High School, Nagle Catholic College, and Mullewa District High School.
Recognising the potential of the social enterprise ideas that were generated, Young Change Agents also offered virtual mentoring sessions for the top teams from the workshops and hope to continue this into the future.
Empowering Educators
An essential aspect of the program was its focus on educator capacity building with Young Change Agents working closely with teachers from the participating schools to integrate entrepreneurial learning into the classroom. This included offering additional Entrepreneurial Learning Hub Memberships to access the resources utilised and provide additional support as needed.
Community Benefits and Future Endeavors
We continue to support schools within the Greater Geraldton areas and have been able to further support one of the schools with an additional scholarship valued at $5,000 to participate in Young Change Agents Digital Boss program thanks to the relationships forged during the program and our Digital Boss sponsor Telstra Foundation. Schools can also access $20 Boss and our National Youth Design Challenges at no cost to the school.
The “Discover and Explore Entrepreneurship” workshop series has set a strong foundation for ongoing entrepreneurial education and community development in Geraldton and Mullewa. We are excited to witness and support the continued growth and innovation from these young change agents.
