Youth co-design the Tweed Shire Council Outdoor Youth Recreation Action Plan

Capacity building Youth

In 2021 the Tweed Shire Council engaged Young Change Agents to support the development and delivery of a participatory approach to planning and designing outdoor youth recreation spaces, facilities, events and activities in the Tweed region.

Young Change Agents and Tweed Shire Council developed a co-design process that engaged youth, industry experts, Council staff and was facilitated by Young Change Agents. The objectives of the co-design process were threefold:

  • To provide an engaging opportunity for youth to play an active role in developing the Outdoor Youth Recreation Action Plan;
  • Build the capacity of youth leaders and Council staff to embed human-centred design mindsets and tools into their practice; and
  • Develop design principles that would underpin the development of the four identified priority projects and the Outdoor Youth Recreation Action Plan as a whole.

After the co-design process, Tweed Shire Council used the insights to inform the development of their Outdoor Youth Recreation Action Plan.
