What is the problem you found?

The issue we have identified relates to safety within the hotel industry. We have discovered the cards used by hotels and interpersonal check-in promotes the spread of coronavirus through constant human contact. This puts both staff and consumers at risk of contraction. As the media continues to overstate the extent of measures necessary to be safe, many people are likely to be increasingly fearful of travel. Thus, it is essential that we create a new device that ensures consumer protection and implores higher-order social distancing measures.

What is your opportunity?

How might we promote social distancing and safety in hotels?

Who is your audience?

Our audience is anyone who travels. This includes businessmen and businesswomen, in addition to families and holidaymakers. Our platform is unique because of its diverse nature, thus our audience is a wide variety of individuals, characterised by their use of hotels and desire for safety.

What Is Your Solution?

Our solution is GecTec. GecTec is a revolutionary online software and IOS app devised for ensuring safety within hotels. This software provides consumers with secure, contact-free check-in and check-out, digital room cards for rooms, suites, and elevators, and recommendations for where to eat, visit and explore. This aims to prevent staff-to-consumer physical contact and promote social distancing and sanitary measures within the hotel building. The app is in use first when a consumer checks in. To do so, the guest scans a simple QR code in the hotel lobby and enters an 8 digit code provided to the customer with booking information. After such, guests have access to the hotel's facilities, such as the elevator, pool, massage room, and most importantly, their room, via a scanner located on the door. Furthermore, the additional features available, such as the ability to book in cleaning services and spa treatments - to reduce human contact- and find out interesting activities around the hotel as well as crowd control data that informs guests of large gatherings nearby. With this preventative Covid-19 solution, we can once more ensure the safety of tourists around the world.
