What is the problem you found?

Young people have been affected by anxiety and depression as a result of COVID-19. They are feeling the need to communicate their feelings with others. There are different ways to do this, however less so for people who speak different languages. How might we reduce the depression and anxiety faced by young people and make this support accessible to people from different cultural backgrounds?

Customer / Problem

Lockdown has made it harder to connect with others which is a proven way to improve mental health. As a result we are facing a mental health crisis where individuals are becoming increasingly isolated.

This isolation can feel particularly hard for individuals who come from diverse cultural backgrounds because they don't know where to go for support, or that support might be challenging to access in their own language.

What Is Your Solution?

Chat & Co is a website and app that allows you to share your story, make connections and chat with like-minded people. Through connecting with others young people will feel less isolated and helps them talk about their problems in a safe environment.

The website has unique features such as a matching policy based on similar interests, a non delete policy and an age restriction rule which are designed for safety.

The website also aims to pair people of similar backgrounds and interests, and aims to offer a penpal service in a similar way.

By using the app and website, people reduce their loneliness and feel more connected to their community.

Advice

We are interested to test our idea out with users, to find out what they think we should include in our website and app. Also, we would like to validate the model of matching people to each other. Tell us what you think, thank you!
