Problem Statement
How might we fight racism in the school community?
Customer / Problem
Students and staff with no lived experience of racism may not understand the harmful ramifications of things like racist stereotypes, jokes, slurs, and attitudes. We want to educate them and make people that are experiencing discrimination feel safer in their school. Educating staff will help build their capacity and knowledge so they can educate their students and provide a safe environment for everyone.
Solution
A workshop for staff about what is racism and how to respond when they witness racism in the school yard. School should be a safe place for everyone regardless of their skin tone, thus teachers need to be equiped to combat racist behaviour and create a culture of respect.
