What is the problem you found?

On 11 March 2020 COVID-19 was announced as a global health crisis by the World Health Organisation. In such a short period we have dealt with so much. Rapid changes to our life have been a large reason for the overwhelming emotions we have been feeling. Our main goal was to understand how people feel as a whole and come up with an idea that we know would be able to help people.

But how have people been feeling? As we researched, we came to understand that mental health was lacking. With how busy, tired and worried we are it would come as no surprise. Mental health includes our emotional, psychological and social wellbeing. It affects how we think, feel and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of our lives.

Through our research, we realised who would benefit so much from our products.  During this time, healthcare workers have done so much for us - taking care of us when we are sick, providing support and care for those in need.

On 26 March 2020 people began the Clap for OUR Carers cause: a gesture of appreciation for our healthcare workers. Personally, we felt that this was a wonderful cause. We realised that we wanted to show our appreciation and to help healthcare workers with dealing with daily stress.

Which is why we came up with the idea of COVID Care.

Customer / Problem

Coronavirus has caused a rapid increase in anxiety and depression with the majority of participants in recent surveys showcasing at least mild levels. In particular health care workers have had an increase in their work and stress load due to the pandemic, often not having time to look after themselves.

Anxiety and depression have risen dramatically due to COVID.

What Is Your Solution?

Healthcare workers have had to work longer shifts due to COVID. Consequently, this leads to deterimental effects on wllbeing and statistics strongly suggest that all individuals nationwide, including those in the medical field, are suffering a mental health decline. Australians have also recognised this problem with various media addressing rising stress levels of healthcare workers.

To alleviate this issue, we propose COVID Care packages. Our COVID Care homemade packages are filled with gifts designed to boost the wellbeing of a healthcare worker.

Our focal goal is to support healthcare workers with their own emotional and mental health during the COVID pandemic. We believe such packages would be a way for people to show gratitude to those 'working on the front lines'. We would like to give mental-health boosting gifts to show them we are grateful for them and value the role they play in our lives. We believe our organisation will also raise awareness of the importance of mental health during and after work.

Connections

Connections and support on how we might potentially broaden our offerings to include other groups in the community who would love this idea! This could include for example, the elderly, vulnerable communities or those who feel socially isolated and would benefit from these care packages.
