Problem Statement

How might we create an environment in communities where we are conscious of food and the waste it produces?


Customer / Problem

We have noticed that many people in our community end up with a lot of food waste at home. In some cases, people don't know where the waste ends up specifically. This means that our biodegradable food waste often ends up in landfills when it could be used for gardening or more productive things.


Solution

We came up with the idea to make a community garden with compost bins. This allows members of the community to bring their food scraps into the compost and put that compost to good use. In addition to this, the community can grow fresh produce. The produce, along with biodegradable and reusable bags, is open for the community to use at a token price. The profit from the garden is in turn reinvested in the upkeep of the garden and buying and maintaining equipment. This allows people to source their food readily from within their neighbourhood without the need for distant travel.
