Problem Statement

How might we...

  • Show tourists how not to disrespect local cultures?
  • Educate tourists in a language they understand?
  • Show tourists the best and safest places to visit?

Customer / Problem

Tourists have a lack of knowledge surrounding the country or local area they are visiting. This can lead to jarring clashes between cultures, where misinformation and miscommunication create offensive and disrespectful interactions between visiting tourists and locals.

Solution

Our solution is an app designed especially for tourists that doubles as both a cultural education platform as well as a GPS service. The app would function primarily as a navigation tool for tourists, however key locations would also include pop ups regarding safety precautions, relevant cultural practices and travelling "do's" and "don't's". Within the app there would also be an in-built community sharing platform, where tourists could interact digitally with local community members to develop empathy and respect in cross-cultural relations. Ultimately, our app would not only reduce the amount of unpleasant encounters locals face as a result of ignorant tourism, but would also greatly enrich and improve the experiences of tourists travelling overseas.
