Responsible Consumption & Production

What is the problem you found?

The problem we discovered and further developed was to see how we can localise food production and minimise food miles. By reducing the food miles, we can limit the number of greenhouse gases that are emitted into the atmosphere and provide more access to produce for the local community. Our opportunity is: How might we decrease greenhouse gas emissions from food production?

Customer / Problem

Our customers for this business model are apartments, pre-existing businesses, low-income householders as well as emerging new businesses.  The problem these customers are facing includes bad company image, lack of affordable food,  guilt about buying food and having to go to inconvenient places to buy food. Melbourne CBD is also facing the problem of low tenancy in commercial buildings.

What Is Your Solution?

VerdeCal is creating customisable vertical gardens in Melbourne's CBD, so that food can be affordably and locally sourced. This will provide low skilled work for people who are unemployed, revitalise the CBD, and decrease greenhouse gases emitted in the transportation of food from farm to city.
