#5MinuteLimit | Educating teenagers about the importance of water and how to take action

What is the problem you found?

- People are not limiting water usage whether it be in the shower or leaving taps running
- People aren’t thoroughly educated on the significance of wasting water, what the negative impacts are and what will happen if we continue to do this.
- They are spending more money than needed from the amount of time they spend in the shower. (Need to be financially smarter because the more water saved, the more money saved and the more power saved)
- For example: People are taking long showers up to an hour, leaving taps running while brushing their teeth, dripping taps from not turning them off properly or needing to get pipes fixed and even throwing away water just by tipping it down the sink (not drinking it)

What is your opportunity?

How might we educate people about water usage? What can they do?
How might we get people motivated and engaged in the 5 minute limit showers project? Possibly through a challenge or a trend?

Who is your audience?

-Our desired target audience will be teenagers such as ourselves for multiple reasons.
- Our generation is the future, we are ‘techy’ using social media the most.
- Teenagers can teach younger siblings/family about the trend and what to do to save water and also teach parents and older family members/friends.
- As we become older, we will carry this information with us and these skills, hopefully education generations to come.
- But anyone who is interested and wants to make a change is appreciated.

What Is Your Solution?

-    Start the 5 minute limit challenge and begin on one social media platform, aiming for one specific target audience (teenagers) and starting off as making the challenge for the local community, then hopefully leading onto a larger scale of nationally and globally
-    Use Tik Tok as our beginning social media platform to start a trend and make a video explaining what the 5 minute limit challenge is, how you can participate, what will happen next and even some tips on how to save water and help.
-    Attempt to put the 5 minute limit challenge on billboards, posters and signs around town and eventually nationally.
-    State when the challenge starts ( For example on the 1st of January, the beginning of the year) how many days it goes for ( say 100 days to begin with)
-    Using the hashtag #FiveMinuteLimit and a few others for it to catch on
-    The incentive for people to catch on is that it is a trend and people from the ages of 13-19 are most likely to catch on at first. Others will use the #5minutelimitchallenge and #watersavingmovement.
-    Tips for saving water will be in tik toks, as it is an engaging and entertaining way to catch their attention. For example: a video of us doing things such as turning taps off and having a timer that says 5 minutes before going for a shower then small amount of information with it.

Additional ideas and thoughts:
-    Create a website with all our information, what else they can do to save water, what happening to our planet, educational videos, chat with others who are participating whether it be by chat or FaceTime/zoom call, Q and A’s, even mini games based around saving water.
-    Spread 5-minute-limit to other social media platforms such as instagram, Facebook and Snapchat.
-    Have links for a timing shower head if the government pays to supply them and add links of our other accounts on different platforms in our tik tok bio.
-    Maybe even start creating and selling merchandise to raise money for a certain cause or our business?

Support Required

Connections

- Our 5minuteLimit challenge will be online so we will need connections of people who are well known in the media to promote our idea?

Funding

- We may need funding from the government to develop our idea further or fund for shower heads  ect.

Advice

- We may need someone who has experience in the field of being an entrepreneur to give us advice on how to start and where to build up from?

Development

- WE NEED TO MAKE A CHANGE NOW AND THE PUBLIC NEEDS TO KNOW THAT, THIS IS OUR FUTURE AND WE NEED SUPPORT FROM JUST ABOUT EVERYONE IF WE WANT TO DO SOMETHING. ITS TIME TO TAKE IT INTO OUR OWN HANDS. THE CHANGE STARTS WITH US AND IT NEEDS TO START NOW BEFORE ITS TOO LATE.
