POTENTIAL PROBLEMS THAT NEED TO BE ADDRESSED (RIGHT NOW)

When trying to find a potential prototype, Jett and I brainstormed a few problems with rural and regional development, which exist today below (sub-reasons).

While the main reason of rural areas not achieving the same outcome of development as the city lies deeply on humanity's lack of faith thinking that they would lose family and their socio-economic status + development of facilities ruining their ''quality of life''. In short, we are social creatures, and we DON'T want to be isolated and lose everything to start again.
We FEAR the uncertainty that change brings.

Problem 1: Limited Economic Opportunities (MAIN) (NO MONEY)

In many rural and regional areas of Australia, there is a distinct lack of diverse job opportunities. This limited job market leads to higher unemployment rates, underemployment, and stunted economic growth, affecting the financial stability of residents and the overall prosperity of these regions.

Problem 2: Bridging the Educational Gap

Access to quality education and vocational training is a fundamental challenge in remote and rural areas. Schools may lack resources, specialised teachers, and advanced courses, making it difficult for students to access quality education and skills development. This educational gap can have a profound impact on future opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Problem 3: Tackling Social Isolation

Rural communities often face social isolation issues. The smaller, tight-knit nature of these communities can unintentionally exclude newcomers or individuals from diverse backgrounds, leading to feelings of disconnection and isolation. This social divide can negatively impact the overall sense of community and well-being.

Problem 4: Promoting Cultural Sensitivity

A lack of awareness and cultural sensitivity can result in misunderstandings, discrimination, and exclusion of individuals from diverse backgrounds. In rural areas with fewer opportunities for cross-cultural interactions, fostering understanding and inclusivity becomes a crucial challenge.

Problem 5: Expanding Access to Resources

Limited access to essential infrastructure and services, such as healthcare, transportation, and internet connectivity, can hinder personal and professional development. These resource deficiencies exacerbate the challenges faced by rural and regional residents, further limiting opportunities for growth.

Problem 6: Empowering Local Mentors

Mentorship and guidance are often lacking in rural areas. Empowering local mentors to provide support and guidance to fellow community members, especially those facing cultural or social challenges, is essential for personal and professional development.

Addressing these problems is paramount to creating a more inclusive, equitable, and accessible environment for individuals and communities in regional and rural Australia.

What is your opportunity?

How might we develop rural communities into vibrant yet accessible environments while maintaining or even better, improving inclusivity and empowering individuals with equal opportunities?

Support Required

Connections

Community Outreach: Building awareness and support within young communities is a critical aspect of youth engagement. Like RuralEmpower Connect's outreach programs, the government can initiate awareness campaigns and outreach efforts specifically tailored to young people. This can involve organizing town hall meetings, youth-focused workshops, and online engagement platforms to connect with young Western Australians and hear their concerns and ideas.

Collaboration: Collaborating with local organizations, schools, and businesses is another essential component of successful youth engagement. By partnering with youth-focused organizations, educational institutions, and employers, the government can create pathways for young people to access opportunities, resources, and mentorship. These collaborations can help prepare young Western Australians for employment and other pathways beyond university.

Funding

Above is all the reasons for funding.

Advice

Prototype Development: Just as RuralEmpower Connect emphasises the importance of developing a prototype and gathering user feedback as said above, the government can create pilot programs* or initiatives aimed at youth engagement. These pilot programs* can serve as prototypes, allowing young people to participate and provide feedback on their experiences. Based on this feedback, the government can refine and improve its approach to youth engagement.

Development

Engage with Stakeholders: To best engage young people in decision-making, the government can take a cue from RuralEmpower-Connect and involve various stakeholders. By collaborating with local youth organisations, educators, community leaders, and young residents, the government can gather valuable feedback and insights. This partnership approach ensures that the voices and perspectives of young people are heard and incorporated into policy and decision-making processes. It would make this a viable solution as it makes sures that the stakeholders affected, in this case, the young demographic heard, keeping the happiness of them while still maintaining the outburst of ongoing needs. This is another set of stakeholders from the original mentioned earlier (a bit different).

Fundraising: To ensure that resources are available for youth-focused initiatives, the government can explore various funding options, as suggested by RuralEmpower Connect. This might include seeking grants from youth-oriented foundations, partnering with private businesses interested in youth development, or even launching crowdfunding campaigns for specific youth projects.

Measuring Impact: Implementing metrics to measure the impact of youth engagement efforts is vital. The government can take inspiration from RuralEmpower Connect's approach to impact measurement by establishing key performance indicators (KPIs) for youth engagement initiatives. These KPIs might include participation rates, youth satisfaction surveys, and tracking the number of young people involved in decision-making processes.

Collaboration: Collaborating with local organizations, schools, and businesses is another essential component of successful youth engagement. By applying these comprehensive strategies inspired by RuralEmpower Connect, the WA Government can enhance its efforts to engage young people in decision making, create more accessible mental healthcare services, protect biodiversity, improve employment readiness, foster community connections, and support alternative pathways for young residents. These actions align with the government's goals to empower and include the youth in shaping the future of Western Australia.
