Rethinking Plastics and the Circular Economy

In partnership with Southern Cross University and Young Change Agents, we have a brand new challenge for participating schools within the Northern Rivers Region, ‘Rethinking Plastics and the Circular Economy’

Our challenge to students at participating schools is, "How can we reduce reliance, repurpose or eliminate single use plastics in order to protect the environment?"

From 1950 to 2017, the United Nations Environmental Programme estimated that over 7 billion tonnes of plastic waste was produced globally, and
according to the World Economic Forum, over 400 million tonnes is produced every year. This challenge isn't just about being creative; it's about helping our environment, the place we all call home, by tackling the plastic problem head-on. Your ideas could be the key to make our world cleaner and safer for everyone!

In this challenge, you'll be choosing a key theme to focus on and working to create a solution to make a change! These themes are:

  1. Sporting and events- "How might we play sports and attend events in a way that protects our environment?"
  2. Health & Wellbeing- "How might we make sure that maintaining our health and wellbeing and protecting our environment can be achieved together?"
  3. Youth Products and Packaging- "How might we make your dollars count for the environment as a young person?"
  4. Technology and Gaming- "How might we use your passion and skills in gaming, digital technology and social media to create a sustainable future?"
  5. Regional/Rural- "How might we encourage regional youth to champion for a greener future?"
