Young Local Change Agents

Young people are tomorrow's beneficiaries of today's decisions. That’s why it’s vital that they have the opportunity to better understand the complex and interconnected issues and be able to contribute to the future of their local communities and cities.

TWEED SHIRE COUNCIL (NSW)

Young Change Agents delivered series of STEM Industry Intrapreneurship programs for students in the Tweed Shire region. 

The program was an opportunity for young people to gain insight into real-world problems within companies across different industries. Students are presented with problem areas by local industry partners. and use design thinking processes to develop, validate, and prototype solutions. The program also aimed to build stronger connections between schools, students, and industry, and to provide students with first-hand experience in solving a real-life problem. 

One of the programs was held in August 2023 for Year 9-10 girls interested in STEM from Kingscliff High School, Mullumbimby High School, Tweed River High School, and Banora Point High School. Throughout this program, students learned about careers in STEM, particularly engineering, from industry partners within Tweed Shire Council. 

The students also learned about four different issues relating to water and water engineering. Throughout the program, students used design thinking to identify problems within the theme of water and water engineering, reframe them as opportunities, develop a solution, create prototypes, and pitch their ideas to a panel of judges.
 
Students from the winning team were offered a work experience opportunity from Tweed Shire Council. 

ENGAGE! MORNINGTON PENISULA (VICTORIA)

In 20203 and 2024 Young Change Agents Engage! Program has worked with the Rotary Club of Rosebud Rye to support young people from the Mornington and Frankston regions see problems as opportunities through learning about Social Entrepreneurship. This has been done through a series of 1-day programs followed by Mini YINC’s and community Showcases to support top teams.

DIVERSITY & INCLUSION- South East (QLD)

The Celebrating Multicultural Queensland Program, generously supported and funded by the Queensland Government was delivered by Young Change Agents in 2023. The program empowered 376 young people from years 7-11 in the South Brisbane and Logan City regions to tackle challenges related to diversity and inclusion and create social enterprise solutions to solve these challenges.

INDUSTRY INTRAPRENEURSHIP IN THE NT

Throughout Term 3, 2023 seven students from St Johns Catholic Senior College Years 10-11 Business Innovation class undertook our Industry Intrapreneurship program. We worked with the school to deliver the 10-week program in partnership with local industry partner Digitally Buzzed, Bel Cook, the Founder and Director of Digitally Buzzed also attended two sessions to provide context for the students.
