Problem Statement

Our team wanted to solve the problem of food waste, but as we conducted research, we found out that one of the main reasons for food waste is over-buying. About 1.3 billion tonnes of food is wasted every year, which is 1/3 of the overall food produced. We have also conducted a survey, in which we found that people overbuy because they don't have the needed ingredients to create a nutritious meal.

Customer / Problem

Most of our customers are parents or other individuals who have full-time jobs or don't have enough time to think about what groceries they want. This then leads them to waste unnecessary money. They also don't have the time to think about what to cook and end up eating a lot of unhealthy preserved food.

Solution

Our solution to this problem was the app called Mon Food. This app connects with your camera so that you only have to take a few pictures of your pantry or fridge, which then is saved into the Mon Food app. Whenever you take a new picture, where something is missing, Mon Food will immediately make a shopping list to buy these foods. Before it is sent to one of our warehouses so that we can deliver to you, you get to personalise the shopping list to add anything else or remove something.

We also have a meal preparation function, this will find meals that can be made with the items in your kitchen or tell you what you need to make a particular dish.
