What is the problem you found?

How might we create a safe space for the LGBTQ+ Community?

Our problem is discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community. The main causes are that the media is influencing peoples' perspectives about this community and putting them into stereotypical boxes, as a result the LGBTQ+ community have been harassed and threatened.

The different beliefs and religions have also affected the LGBTQ+ community as some groups are not used to new identities emerging in the world.

Customer / Problem

Our customers are students at Aquinas College who are a part of the LGBTQ+ community, who may not feel a sense of safety, visibility or belonging in their school environment.

People who what to learn and be more aware of the LGBTQ+ community may also benefit from our podcast. 

What Is Your Solution?

Queer Corner is a podcast featuring LGBTQI+ guests, and discussions on issues affecting the community while empowering queer/trans members of the school through media training.

- If you were Principal for the day: what would you do to support the LGBTQI+ community?

Impact:

- The young people included in our podcast would receive media training which would help them continue in their journey as an advocate

- Creates awareness about the struggles coming out

- It could help them be more accepting of themselves even if others don't accept them
