What is the problem you found?

How might we provide safe crosswalks for people with visual impairments?

Customer / Problem

Our customers are blind or visually impaired people living in the Gold coast community. They often have to rely on the support of others or a guide dog to make their way across roads safely.

What Is Your Solution?

An innovative crosswalk system that uses the following features to assist blind or visually impaired people when crossing the road:

  1.  Retractable handrails, allowing people that are blind or visually impaired to use while they make their way across the road.
  2. Speaker system, providing alerts when it is safe to cross the road and how long is left
  3. Pressure sensors, to trigger the crosswalk such that there is no requirement to press a button
